The tradition of the 72 Angels and the Tree of Life expands and gives deep personal relevance to our age-old ideas of guardian angels. This remarkable body of wisdom reveals that the Angels are not only guardians, messengers and helpers from Above – they are actually dwelling within us as the Divine-Stuff we are made of. The 72 Angels remind us that “God” is made up of many qualities, and that those many qualities--which are embodied as the Angels, human beings and every other kind of creature and created thing--are made up of God. Like the human parent-offspring cliché, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” each thing and being created by the Divine--however small or great--embodies particular aspects of That Which created it. What this says about human life is that we each represent a fragment of the Divine’s total identity and being, and as such, it takes each of us and all of us to complete the “Bigger Picture” of Life. And like a giant jigsaw puzzle, each piece of Creation is imprinted and shaped as a portion of the picture that is meant to fit perfectly in its own particular place...Though we sometimes struggle with recognizing--and remembering--which piece we are and where our place is, having the Bigger Picture as a blueprint can help us to find where we belong in that Picture, and thus where we belong in the picture of our own lives. The 72 Angels are the conveyors of this blueprint and the cosmic reflection that there is a unique and important place for every single one of us. They remind us that each of us, as an embodied quality of God, has within a way to reconnect to our Source that was and continues to be given to us by the Source Itself...

The discovery and revival of this heart-driven Renaissance tradition of the 72 Angels, which lay buried behind Inquisition-suppressed walls since 1492, is very timely. Whether a seeker desires to walk an autonomous, private path to the Divine, or to rejuvenate a sectarian, religious or other organized spiritual practice, the 72 Angels can be facilitators. This is because their venue is the human heart--something all of us have in common, whatever language we speak or ideologies we express. The Angels are bringers of love, and the love that they bring is like a 72-colored rainbow radiating the infinite combinations of Divine hues that we as humans embody and express. This love is a love that contains all purposes and possibilities. It is a love with as many different qualities, forms, faces and expressions as there are people. It is a love that waits on us to discover that however long or far we seek, what we are looking for is always right here, in our heart of hearts, prompting us to ask, beckoning us to receive, inviting us within--to be with it--and to know once and for all that, truly, we are never alone.
